Empowering leadership in hospitality and tourism management: a systematic literature review

Purpose This study aims to review the empirical studies on empowering leadership in hospitality and tourism proposes an associated research agenda. Design/methodology/approach A disciplined selection process using transparent inclusion exclusion criteria resulted a final sample of 25 studies. The results from these were systematically analyzed content analysis. Findings synthesis articles highlights that: are mainly based motivational theories with social orientation; has been examined within various cultures mostly quantitative methods; multiple instruments used measure leadership; is variously defined construct that found promote creativity innovation, service performance employee attitudes behaviors. Research limitations/implications authors provide integrated framework for contexts, proposing theoretical implications directions further research. Practical identified growing interest diverse as well increasing impetus understand how leaders can effectively empower their subordinates. Originality/value provides systematic understanding examining frameworks, antecedents, mediators, moderators consequences contexts. Significant opportunities remain address gaps limitations discovered.
